A healthy environments produce healthy communities that produce healthy people.
The physical environment of a community impacts it's children's physical and mental health. Conditions of the physical environment influence people overall well-being. Communities with excessive debris, varying forms of pollution, unkempt vacant lots and buildings, limited access to common green spaces and spaces for healthy recreation, lack attractiveness, cause disinvestment, and poor social cohesion.
Modifying the physical environment is a proven practice for preventing violence and increasing residents' physical and mental well being.
ReCo is coordinating a coalition of individuals and organizations to design and execute a project to prevent violence and trauma, increase social cohesion, and develop community leadership capacity by improving the physical condition of South Shore.
